Crispy Bacon Squares: The Ultimate Burger Topping

Bacon Squares, wood pellet, Grill, BBQ, smoker, recipeBacon Squares

We love bacon and recently discovered thick, flavorful bacon that makes a big difference in sandwiches and burgers. Rather than having strips hang off the edges, try a full square of bacon the size of your sandwich or burger so every bite includes bacon. This method creates a neat, easy-to-handle bacon layer that stays put and delivers maximum flavor.

Bacon Squares — The Perfect Burger Topper

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes (microwave)

Ingredients: Bacon Squares

  • Fresh bacon slices, each cut in half

Directions: Bacon Squares

For each bacon square, use 3 to 4 slices of bacon cut in half. Lay the halves out and weave them to form a square that matches the size of your burger or sandwich. Place the weave on a microwave-safe bacon tray or plate and cook in the microwave for about 3 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your desired crispness. Remove and let rest while you finish the burger or sandwich assembly.

Notes on Technique

Microwaving is a fast option and works well on a microwave bacon tray, but you can also cook bacon squares in an oven, on a grill, or under a broiler—adjust time and temperature as needed. Thicker bacon may need more time. Aim for a balance of crisp edges and some chew in the center so the square holds together when lifted onto a burger.
