Get ready to cozy up with a nostalgic fall favorite: Air Fryer Apple Crisp. This simple recipe showcases fresh seasonal apples topped with a buttery, crunchy oat crumble. It’s quick to assemble, fills your kitchen with warm cinnamon aroma, and delivers comforting flavor in every bite. Make this easy dessert any time you want a small, satisfying sweet treat from the air fryer.

Key to Success #1 – Use Granny Smith Apples
For this recipe I recommend tart, firm apples such as Granny Smith. Their bright tartness balances the sweet crumble, and their firm texture helps them hold up during cooking so the filling doesn’t turn mushy. If you substitute a sweeter apple, reduce the added sugar slightly to keep flavors balanced.
To speed prep and get even slices, use an apple slicer to core and slice, then halve or third each wedge so the pieces are bite-sized and cook uniformly.

Key to Success #2 – Pile the Apples High
Apples shrink as they cook, so fill each ramekin nearly to the top with apple pieces before adding the crumble. This ensures a generous fruit-to-topping ratio when finished. If using small ramekins, you can fit four 6-ounce dishes in many 5–6 qt air fryers; adjust quantities or use multiple batches to serve more.
As you fill ramekins, do the work over the sink or a lined surface for an easier cleanup.

Key to Success #3 – The Fork Test
Air fryers vary, so use the fork poke test to check doneness: the apples should be tender but not falling apart. Start checking a few minutes before the suggested time to avoid overcooking. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel if desired.

Air Fryer Apple Crisp
Ingredients
For the Crumble
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup old fashioned oats
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ cup cold butter, cut into pieces
For the Apple Filling
- 2–3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into bite-sized pieces
- 3 Tbsp butter, melted
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
Directions
Make the Crumble Topping
- In a small bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Use a fork or pastry cutter to press cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Make the Apple Filling
- Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (188°C). Grease four 6-ounce ramekins well.
- In a medium bowl, combine the apple pieces with melted butter, flour, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Toss until evenly coated.
- Divide the apple mixture evenly between the prepared ramekins. Sprinkle the chilled crumble evenly over the apples.
- Cook in the air fryer at 370°F for 15–17 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. Use the fork test to confirm apple tenderness.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and, if you like, a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Diabetic substitutions:
- Reduce sugar in the filling to 2 Tbsp.
- Omit caramel sauce.
- Try whole wheat flour in place of all-purpose flour for the topping.
